E-mail your MSPs to support the Members Business motion on marine energy

PCS is asking members to contact their MSPs to ask them to back Parliamentary motion S7M-01592, Realising the Economic Potential of Marine Energy.

This important e-action is part of a campaign by PCS to maintain job security for workers in the devolved Scottish public sector. You can complete it simply by filling in your details below.

Earlier this year workers in Wave Energy Scotland faced a funding “cliff” which would have seen all of them made redundant on 31 March. Lobbying by PCS and others secured additional funding through 2026/27. The Scottish Government have made clear that there will be no further funding, and WES have begun cutting headcount with a view to winding up in 2027/8.

The cross-party motion which PCS is asking MSPs to back focuses on the economic potential of marine energy for Scotland, and the continuing need for innovation in the sector. It refers to a report which was commissioned by Scottish Enterprise and which can be read online here.  It does not call for WES to continue as-is, but recognises that a strategic approach to energy by the Scottish Government will require it to employ workers with the skills and expertise that the workers in WES have.

In order to get this motion selected for debate, we need as many MSPs as possible to back it. For the debate to meaningfully influence the Scottish Government, we also need as many MSPs as possible to participate in it.

One of PCS’s core demands of the Scottish Government is for a redeployment protocol which will protect the job security of workers when the bodies they work for are restructured, merged, or abolished. WES workers need your solidarity now. What happens to them will be the precedent for what happens if and when other Scottish public bodies begin to disappear as part of the Scottish Government’s reform plans.

To complete this e-action, you will need to provide your e-mail address and post code. This is because MSPs can only deal with correspondence from their own constituents.
