Capita failures continue – write to your MP today
PCS is urging members to write to their MP after the Government awarded Capita the Synergy HR and payroll contract, covering more than 250,000 civil servants across DWP, the Home Office, Ministry of Justice and Defra.
The decision comes while Capita remains at the centre of the Civil Service Pension Scheme crisis. Ministers and senior officials told MPs that Capita had missed key recovery targets, with more than 111,000 cases still outstanding and thousands of pension payments delayed.
PCS has repeatedly warned ministers that rewarding Capita with more Government work while serious failures remain unresolved puts members’ pay, pensions and livelihoods at risk.
PCS General Secretary Fran Heathcote said:
"The Minister can try to shift the blame, but the facts are clear. After the catastrophe of the civil service pensions contract, the last thing Government should have done was award Capita the Synergy shared services contract.
"Failure should have consequences. Capita should lose the pensions contract and should never have been rewarded with the lucrative Synergy deal, which now puts the payroll and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of civil servants in its hands."
Take action now
Use this e-action to write to your MP and ask them to:
- Challenge the award of the Synergy contract to Capita
- Ask why further work is being handed to a company currently failing to deliver on the Civil Service Pension Scheme
- Support bringing HR, payroll and pension services back in-house
- Back PCS's calls for accountability, consultation and protection for staff
Government should learn the lessons of the pensions crisis. Capita should not be rewarded for failure, and public services should be brought back into public hands.
