PCS and Together With Refugees have commissioned a new report that shows how a fair and humane asylum system can support economic growth.
Britain’s refugee policies have been uncaring, chaotic, and costly for too long. They aren’t working for refugees, and they aren’t working for communities across the country.
Research carried out by the London School of Economics in the new report Welcoming Growth – the case for a fair and humane asylum system, reveals that every refugee accepted into the UK would contribute over £260,000 to the UK economy if the report’s proposed changes were adopted. This includes a net benefit to the public purse of £53,000 per refugee.
As the government takes a harder line against people who come to this country, fleeing war, persecution and violence, PCS is urging the UK Labour government to seriously consider the policy proposals put forward in the report.
